The 2015 MLB regular season for the Oakland Athletics wasn’t an easy one, with only 68 wins. They lost 94 games during the regular season, which ended up being their worst in the last ten years. They came in fifth place in the West division of the American League.
The Athletics didn’t always have a rough season, though. They’ve won nine World Series Championships, a feat only one-third of all the teams in MLB have managed. They are one of the older franchises in the MLB; they were founded back in 1901 in Philadelphia, PA. At that time, they were called the Philadelphia Athletics. They stayed in Pennsylvania until 1955, at which point they moved to Kansas City, where they became known as the Kansas City Athletics. They moved to a different park in 1968 when they made the move to Oakland, CA, becoming the Oakland Athletics. Their main rivals are the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals.
The Oakland Athletics have played at five different stadiums over the years since their inclusion in the American League, starting out at Columbia Park, where they played from 1901-1908. They moved to Shibe Park in 1909, and played there for 45 years. In 1955, when they moved to Kansas City, they began playing at Municipal Stadium, and stayed there until 1967. Since the 1968 season, Oakland Coliseum has been their home stadium, with the exception of 1996. During that year, they were temporarily transferred to Cashman Field in Las Vegas. Oakland Coliseum was under construction to expand for the return of the Raiders, a football team.
The Oakland Athletics placed 14th in the American League during 2016 Spring Training, and based on a PCT of .414, they placed 23rd in MLB for Spring Training.
