The Los Angeles Dodgers have a long and impactful history in major league baseball. The team originated in Brooklyn, New York in 1883. They were originally called the Atlantics, but after several name changes, settled on the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1932. On April 15, 1947, the team made national history for the sport when Jackie Robinson joined. Robinson was the first African American to join the MLB. Past rivalries include the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees.

While they were located on the east coast from 1884-1957, the Dodgers played in six different stadiums. Once they moved to Los Angeles, they played in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum until 1961. Dodger Stadium, their current home ballpark, opened in 1962.
