The Houston Astros, like many teams, have gone through periods of building years and periods of success. While 2010 through 2014 was a rough patch for the Houston Astros, the team used that time to rebuild and bounced back in the 2015 MLB season, making it to the playoffs where they won three games against the New York Yankees. Unfortunately, the Kansas City Royals defeated them in the American League Division Series, but the Astros 2015 performance was strong and bodes well for the 2016 MLB season.

The team began as the Houston Colt .45s in 1962, and continued to play as the Colt .45s through 1964. At that point, they became the Houston Astros—a name chosen for the city’s connection to the national space program. They played in the National League for 51 seasons, during which time they won six pennants, including a three-year streak from 1997-1999.

When the Houston Astros called themselves the Houston Colt .45s, they played at Colt Stadium. The shift to the name “Astros” brought about a milestone in stadium architecture when the Astrodome was built in 1965—the first sports stadium topped with a dome. The Houston Astros played at the Astrodome through 1999, and in 2000 began playing at Minute Maid Park, their home field. Minute Maid Park is easily accessible by public transportation, and is nearby to the Houston performing arts scene, and the following venues: Wortham Theater Center, Alley Theatre, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, and the Revention Music Center.
