The Detroit Tigers had a strong start at the beginning of the 2015 MLB season, winning their first six games. Beginning with the seventh game, though, their performance took a turn for the worse. By July 2015, the decision had been made to rebuild the team, and numerous trades were made. Ultimately, the Tigers ended the 2015 MLB season in last place within the Central Division of the American League, and in second-to-last place in the entirety of the American League itself. What fans might find remarkable is that despite this standing, the Tigers had the best batting stats throughout both the American and National Leagues for 2015.

The team was founded back in 1894, and of all of the fifteen teams in the American League, the Tigers have had the same name the longest, and have had the same home city the longest. Despite the consistency of their name and home, Detroit has had a tumultuous history on the field, swinging from periods of what might be thought of as golden eras to times of lackluster performance and back again. The Detroit Tigers have won four World Series: 1935, 1945, 1968, and 1984.

The Detroit Tigers play home games at Comerica Park in Detroit, right near the bank of the Detroit River. Nearby, tourists can also visit the MGM Grand Detroit, the Greektown Casino-Hotel, the Joe Louis Arena, and the Motown Museum.

Despite their 2015 performance, and perhaps in response to it, the 2016 MLB season will be an exciting one for the Detroit Tigers. Last season, nine members were replaced through either free agency or trade agreements, part of the mid-season reset in 2015. They’re also joined in 2016 by Rich Dubee, their new pitching coach.
