Orlando magic is an American professional basketball team based in Orlando, Florida. The team competes in the NBA as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Southeast Division.
The team itself was first created in September of 1985. That’s when businessman Jim L. Hewitt contacted the Philadelphia 76ers general manager, Pat Williams. He wanted to bring a NBA team to Orlando, and Williams quickly signed on as the front man of the investment group one year later after leaving the 76ers.
In 1989, the Orlando Magic played its first exhibition game against the Detroit Pistons. Surprising almost everyone, the Magic won. The team then went on to play their first season game against the New Jersey Nets, who won in a hard-fought game. But two days later, the Magic won against the New York Knicks.
In more recent years, the Magic has gone through a series of trades for players. And in May 2016, Scott Skiles stepped down as head coach of the Orlando Magic. His place was taken by former Indiana Pacers coach, Frank Vogel.
With the new coach came new changes. The Orlando Magic made many changes to their roster during the offseason. In the 2016 NBA draft, the Magic chose Domantas Sabonis 11th overall, but then traded him and Victor Oladipo for Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Magic also re-signed Evan Fournier along with Bismark Biyombo, Jeff Green, and DJ Augustin. And in July, CJ Wilcox was traded to the Magic in exchange for Devyn Marble.
In the 2016-17 preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Orlando Magic lost 102 to 117. However, the new changes to the roster may mean that the Orlando Magic may make a comeback. Whether or not the team manages to succeed, though, remains to be seen.
