The Backstreet Boys are an American vocal group that first formed in 1993. While the group has gone through turbulent times in the past, the group has since gotten back together and consists of A.J. McLean, Howie D., Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, and Brian Littrell.

The band first formed when Howie Dorough and A.J. McLean met Nick Carter. The three realized they could harmonize together and decided to create a trio. Then later, Kevin Richardson and Brian Littrell met the others while working in Orlando, Florida, and they decided to form a five-person group.

The band’s very first performance occurred at SeaWorld Orlando in 1993. From there, they released their hit single, “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” in 1995. They then finished recording their first album, Backstreet Boys, in 1996.

Surprisingly, the band’s popularity was, at first, mostly in Europe.  Then in 1997, the group released “Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)” in the U.S. for their upcoming U.S. debut album. The song climbed to No. 2 on Billboard Hot 100, eventually earning them a platinum award.

In 1998, the band reached superstardom. They released their third studio album, Millenium, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1. In all, it sold over a million copies during just the first week of release.

In 2006, Richardson left the Backstreet Boys to pursue other interests and departed amicably. Two days after his departure, the Backstreet Boys entered the studio to record their sixth album, Unbreakable. After the album’s release, they went on a world tour.

Since then, the band has continued to gain notoriety. In 2015, Carter, Dorough and McClean filmed the movie, Dead 7, which then aired on the SyFy channel in 2016. They also confirmed a Vegas residency for 2017 in a show titled “Backstreet Boys: Larger than Life.”
