History

As a result, the Vikings became the NFL’s 14th franchise that year. They selected the team name to reflect the Midwest’s Scandinavian heritage. Currently, the team plays for the National Football Conference (NFC) division, although it had been part of NFC Central and Western Conference Central Divisions in the past. The team experienced its greatest period of success in the 1970s, where it got to the Super Bowl three times before the end of the decade. While fans may remember the 1980s as a dry spell, their wins picked up in the late ‘90s. Since the 2000s, they’ve attracted high-level talent like Adrian Peterson, signed straight from the University of Oklahoma, and Brett Favre. More recently, they signed German wide receiver Moritz Böhringer, the first European drafted into the NFL without playing at any level in North America.
