Within North America, progressive house, dubstep, and trap are some of the most dominant dance music genres. Others, like trance, techno, electro, and deep house, have carved out separate niches. Appealing to trance fans, Dreamstate Festival caters to those who prefer their downbeats less heavy, the BPMs high, and the arpeggios prominent, and is scheduled for a November 25th to 26th run at San Bernardino’s NOS Events Center.
Background
An Insomniac event, Dreamstate made its debut in November 2015, and its success spawned a second festival in New York in August 2016. While trance acts have long been included at big dance events in the U.S., such as Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance tent at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival, Dreamstate is, to date, the only trance-focused large-scale event in North America.
The demand at both Dreamstate events resulted in an expanded festival for November 2016. Expect three stages with Insomniac’s large-scale production elements, including theatrical performers, high-energy sounds, and pyrotechnics.

What many outside the trance world fail to realize is, the style covers a range of subgenres. Vocal trance has long been popular, while in 2013, trouse – a mix of progressive house and classic trance – started gaining some ground in mainstream EDM. Further, fast-paced psytrance has slipped under the mainstream radar but is known for its euphoric, uplifting feel.
